Faith and Reason

The Pope is dying as I write this. I am surprised by the deep way this is affecting me. I have not been a practicing Catholic for many years but as he nears death I am emotional and apprehensive. He is a great man. I don't think you have to agree with him on every issue to respect his faith and his commitment to his values. My faith is private. I have trouble explaining it even to my children (though I try). That said it is with no hesitation that I write that when Pope John Paul II crosses over the world will have lost a great light. If anyone is carried away by angels, this man will be. Tonight I pray that the Divine will surround Pope John Paul II as a parent's love envelops a child.
